Eighth Annual Report

Date of publication: December 1999

Summary
The National Health Committee (NHC) has made a major contribution to health and disability outcomes in New Zealand in the past eight years. The Committee is an independent advisory body appointed by the Minister of Health under Section Six of the Health and Disability Services Act 1993. Although its ten members come from diverse backgrounds and professions within the health and disability sector, the Committee as a whole has a strong identity among health professionals. It has developed an enviable track record through its many respected publications and the quality of its advice both to successive Ministers of Health and to the wider community. While the Committee's concern extends to the health and independence of all New Zealanders, it has a particular focus on groups in the population, often with low health status, who have difficulty accessing services.
