Tenth Annual Report

Date of publication: December 2001

Summary
Mihimihi

E ngā iwi, e ngā reo
E ngā karangatanga maha o
Ngā hau e whā, tenei te mihi
Atu ki a koutou katoa

This is the tenth annual report of the National Advisory Committee on Health and Disability (NHC, the Committee). The report summarises the work of the Committee during 2001 and the advice that the Committee provided to the Minister during the year.

The establishment in July of a public health advisory committee (PHAC) under the chairmanship of Alistair Woodward has expanded the role of the Committee.

Two meetings held out of Wellington, in Dunedin in May and Whangarei in November that focused on primary health care, provided an excellent opportunity for the Committee to engage with local health providers and community representatives on both regional and national issues.

The National Health Committee gratefully acknowledges the participation of members of the public, health and disability support professionals, and people in government and non-government agencies in our work. The ongoing interest of the Minister of Health is also appreciated.

The Committee will continue to provide an independent and balanced view of the publicly-funded health system and public health in New Zealand. We remain committed to improving the health of New Zealanders and reducing health inequalities.
