Summary
The primary function of the National Health Committee (NHC, Committee) is to advise the Minister of Health on the nature and mix of health and disability support services that should be publicly funded. This document has been developed by the Committee to open discussion on the assessment of new health and disability technologies in New Zealand.
The paper identifies key issues surrounding 'New Technology Assessment' (NTA). Submissions on any of the issues raised in this paper are encouraged. On the basis of submissions and subsequent debate, the National Health Committee will formulate recommendations and advice to the Minister of Health on new technology assessment in New Zealand.
Note:
This discussion paper contains the views of the National Health Committee. Suggestions about possible changes to current processes and practices of the Ministry of Health, District Health Boards, PHARMAC, ACC, and the NZHTA are not binding on those organisations. The Committee appreciates the assistance of these organisations in putting this paper together.
